Since it has been so warm, all I can think of is jumping into a nice cool lake or swimming pool. Also, because it has been so warm, I get that nasty, sweaty feeling and like to wash my hands to help me psychologically cool off. Because of my current focus on water, I focused on some fun facts regarding water:
Did you know they used to use urine to tan animal skins? In the 1500's families used to all pee in a pot and then once a day they would take that pot and sell it to the local tannery. If you had to do this to survive, you were "piss poor". Worse than that were the really poor people who couldn't even afford to buy a pot...so... (wait for it...) they "didn't have a pot to piss in" and were the lowest of the low...
Do you know why most people got married in June? Again, in the 1500's most people got married in June because they took their yearly baths in May, so they still smelled pretty good in June. However, since they were starting to smell, brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet of flowers when getting married. (icky...)
Now for the last little fun fact today - Baths in the 1500's consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other men and sons got to take a bath. Then the women and finally the children had a chance to bathe. Last to get bathed were the babies. By this time, the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying: "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water".
Aren't you glad we are living in the 21st century? I don't think I would like taking a bath after a bunch of others have bathed in the same water...ewww...
